“Fire!” Herblock’s History: Political Cartoons from the Crash to the Millennium, Library of Congress Exhibition
And in 1950, a young senator from Wisconsin, Joseph McCarthy, seeking political gain, began a well-publicized campaign using smear tactics, bullying and innuendo to identify and purge communists and “fellow travelers” in government. Herb Block recognized the danger to civil liberties posed by such activities and warned of them in his work.
(Read this Herb Lock article from our own Library of Congress and determine for yourself if it disgusts you as much as it did me. The presentation is as much propaganda as were Lock’s uniformed portrayals of American patriots. It is disturbing, VERY DISTURBING that a U.S. Government agency can actually publish work like this. (Publishing from a historical perspective is one thing, but advocating the view of the left-leaning fringe is quite another.) There WERE communists in our government. Those standing out against the exposures of such individuals were often doing so for political gain of their own or flat out LIED. Tyndall himself, McCarthy’s greatest detractor, is exposed as a liar, political opportunist, and certainly not a patriot as he is in this propaganda at the Library of Congress.
Read Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America’s Enemies. This scholarly book is FULL of facts, official documents, arrest information, and a time line of important events that led up to McCarthy’s comparatively small role in what was an on-going effort to rid communists from our government, in particular our own State Department, since the 1930′s. Read how communist sympathizers and members sympathized and supported communist China and the Soviet Union. It frightened me to understand that people in our government worked so hard to further socialist agendas at the expense of all US citizens.
Great deal on Amazon: ‘Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe M…’ by M. Stanton Evans (Paperback… http://amzn.to/cD9Gtz
When you read this book and then read the contents of the Library of Congress page you find yourself in an incredulous state. How could a writer at the Library of Congress be so vacuous and uninformed? Only if they actually sided with Tyndall, the socialists, and I shudder to think, the communists.)
