Maryland Taxes: Homestead Tax Credit
How many times have you had to apply for the Homestead Tax Credit? How many times have you forgotten to send the form back in a tax year? How much have you over paid in state property tax to the benefit of our spendthrift legislature?
I am furious that I have to keep filing this status while I am STILL in the home and paying property taxes for it. We almost missed our application deadline. It was in one of those envelopes that got over looked during the time of my serious illness last year. It occurred to me that the spendthrifts are HOPING that many homeowners FORGET to apply for this credit and thus LOSE the exemption. You think?
Incredulity is the word for finding that the online application did not work for me at the state website. A match between my property tax account number and access number does not work as of February 11th. The letter says I have sixty days.
Warning to all Maryland property tax payers. SEND IN YOUR HOMESTEAD TAX CREDIT APPLICATION. The state is banking on you that you don’t. Pun intended.
Please note that a family member also living in Maryland sent an ONLINE and a MAILED application and NO HOMESTEAD CREDIT was applied! My relative paid the state an extra $1000 in state property taxes. We applied last year and the year before that. Both times online. As taxpayers we should NOT tolerate this kind of incompetence. My relative FINALLY made a personal visit to a state tax office and offered a prayer to the Almighty.

One of Maryland’s budget-balancing tactics – asking millionaires to pay more money to the state – appears to be backfiring as the number of the highest-earning taxpayers dwindles with the flagging economy. A year ago, Maryland became one of the first states in the nation to create a higher tax bracket for millionaires…

Reflections: Can a state be committed?
Ron Miller, candidate for Maryland State Senate opposing Mike Miller (D) for District 27 in Calvert and Prince Georges County understands clearly that Annapolis law makers are unrestrained:
“Then we hear this week that despite the severe budget shortfalls at the state level which were only partially ameliorated by federal “stimulus” funds, O’Malley STILL KEEPS SPENDING to the tune of $1.5 billion in proposed increases to the 2010 budget.
Is it possible for an entire government to have a spending addiction? If addiction is characterized by loss of control, preoccupation, compulsivity, narrowing of interests, dishonesty, guilt and chronic relapse, then Annapolis (and Washington, for that matter) needs to go on the couch.”
This new post at Ron’s blog Reflections really gets one thinking about our current governor and about those that claim to represent us.

Ed. Note – The last thing Maryland needed was additional taxes on small business owners. Soon, if not now, Maryland will be too expensive for any business but WalMart and too expensive for any retiree or person with a limited income. Unless you are either enormously wealthy or dirt poor you won’t be living in Maryland. You can’t afford to.
Democrats are clueless. They are pricing business out of the state to pay for tax-and-spend projects during a budget shortfall. DESPITE stimulus funds the Maryland legislature is STILL spending 250 million on new school construction and STILL has a 500 million dollar shortfall this year. There is no budget restraint in Maryland only feel-good politics and a serious lust for continued power. The people of Maryland that voted for O’Malley and Mike Miller need to re-evaluate their choices. Are you aware of what your state legislature is doing with YOUR money?

Ron Miller is THE republican candidate that will un-seat tax and spend Mike Miller here in Maryland. I had a chance to see and hear Ron at the Solomon’s Tea Party and was IMPRESSED, In this post at Ron’s website he details the on-going tax and spend antics of Maryland’s Democrats in Annapolis. Take a minute to read this post. Ron is right on the money, pun intended. Ron starts out, ” I participated in my second-ever protest last Sunday when I served as the master of ceremonies for the “Concerned Citizens” Tea Party at Solomons. God gave us a cool, sunny day, great speakers and a crowd Sheriff Evans estimated at between 500-600 people. The homemade signs were excellent and the crowd was anxious to be heard in Annapolis and Washington. The week’s events, however, suggest we’re going to have to turn up the volume because our public “servants” – and I use that term loosely – aren’t listening.”

An attendee of the Solomon’s Island, MD Tea Party was waving the Gadsden flag with its Don’t Tread on Me slogan. The message in that flag was so appropriate under the circumstances that my family has adopted it as our “flag-pole” protest against out-of-control spending. Don’t tread on me.
This is the brief history of the flag taken from the Humphrys Flag Company from which I purchased our flag: “ Named after Colonel Christopher Gadsen of South Carolina, was flown early in 1775 by Commodore Esek Hopkins of Rhode Island, first Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Fleet. Its inscription represented a warning by the colonists to the British. ”
In our case, flying the Gadsden flag is a message to the far left in this country that uncontrolled spending and high taxes are not in anyone’s best interest.
Consider purchasing your own Gadsden Flag and fly this historic flag proudly in support of your principles and values.

The 912 Project I watched Glenn Beck tonight on Fox and I was deeply moved. When I tried to visit the new website for The 912 Project it was down or too busy. After I wrote this post over ONE THOUSAND people clicked here apparently thinking my article link was a way to get to the project.
In all my years on the net I have never seen anything like this. Glenn’s impact has been extraordinary. Thousands of people are trying to connect to his domain and it is still showing an error 403 – Forbidden. We will all have to wait and take a more orderly approach to joining Glenn in the project.
What struck me the most was when he looked into the camera and said that it wasn’t the media that mattered. It wasn’t the politician that mattered it was US. The American people.
I really hope that tonight a message was finally received in Washington. A message that we are going to expect that principled people are actually solving our nation’s problems.
God bless America.
As of 0827 this morning Glenn’s site is still down and I don’t see any news about it at FoxNews.com. We can read about the 9 Principles to Believe In. and Glenn’s twelve values.
Links here almost brought my website to its knees because people REALLY wanted to connect with Glenn on this. This is nothing short of phenomenal.
The 9-12 Project.
We surround them.
Don’t fool yourself. Tax rebate? Not so.
In Maryland the new Democrat Governor raised property taxes the maximum amount. School spending is out of control. My county is building a new community swimming pool and has already built a palatial new county library. Every kid in the county gets bussed to school. Maryland sales tax went up this year. Maryland enacted a NEW 6% so-called “millionaire’s tax” this year aimed solely at the successful people that have struggled to build business here. The business climate here is becoming abysmal.
The State of Maryland has already, many times over, absorbed every tax rebate through increased or new state taxes in the last two years. There is no Federal Tax Rebate. When we get money back it goes into savings. We have to worry about paying fuel costs to drive to work. Heating oil prices were the highest ever this Winter. We also have the increased price of food and the new state sales tax to cope with. Life is back to making ends meet.
Law makers in Annapolis need to take their hands out of my pockets. The money is squandered. There is no state spending discipline. The tax increases are planned for and spent before the assessments are even mailed. That’s how it appears to me.
There is no Federal Tax Rebate. It’s another election year ploy for votes. Take that check you get and put it in the bank. You are going to need it either to pay your property tax bill in Maryland this year, to pay for gas, food, oil,or other new taxes invented by the legislature.
